Welcome to Barnardo’s Education Community
Barnardo’s Education Community has been developed to connect professionals working in education settings across Early Years, Schools, Further Education and Universities.
Barnardo’s Education Community provides access to online trauma informed resources with a focus on loss, grief and bereavement to support the children and young people across your settings.
It is important that you take care of yourself during these challenging times so we have included a section of resources to support staff wellbeing.
The Education Community team will be developing training to support the use of our resources across your settings and sign up to our communities of practice will enable you to connect with education staff nationwide and participate in themed discussions, sharing learning and best practice.

Bereavement
There are a range of definitions for the word ‘Bereavement’ but, in essence, it refers to the experience of losing someone (or something), and describes the period of time after a loss, especially after the death of a loved one, when people grieve and mourn.

Staff Wellbeing
In order to achieve the best outcomes for children and young people, those who work with them need to be well supported and it is important that their wellbeing is taken seriously. We are committed to supporting educators so they can support their students effectively.

Worksheets/Workbooks
We know that the life of an educator is very busy so we have put together a range of worksheets to support you in facilitating difficult conversations with children and young people around general wellbeing, particularly when focussing on the key areas such as trauma, loss, grief and bereavement.

Best Practice
This section shares practice that has been shown to be effective and includes case studies from settings and schools.
