The Spaces for Wellbeing Programme

The Spaces for Wellbeing Programme designed by Barnardo's Scotland is focused on staff wellbeing and is designed to ‘provide inspiration and not instruction’.

Since December 2021, BEC have hosted the Spaces for Wellbeing Programme.

We offer two co-production workshops to identify common themes around staff wellbeing.

Aim
To introduce you to a resource that can be used to create a framework for staff wellbeing that can be part of a whole school plan.

There are 4 stages
Discover, Dream, Design and Deliver. Through the Discover and Dream stages, we identify common themes around staff wellbeing, and needs led, not resource led, ideas are generated. Through the Design and Deliver stages the ideas are aligned to the eight wellbeing indicators (SHANARRI). It provides a consistent framework, shared language, and common understanding of wellbeing (more information about the approach and process).

Outcomes
You will have a resource that you can use to create a bespoke framework for your school. You will have developed an understanding of an Appreciative Enquiry approach which you can apply to other areas of your work.

Previous participants have found the process and events very empowering:

‘If you put people together and allow them to dream, it’s amazing what they can come up – small things that can make big changes to people’s wellbeing!’

(Spaces for Wellbeing workbook, p.13)

In 2023, we collaborated with educators based in Hull and surrounding areas as part of the co-production process to develop the Spaces for Wellbeing Programme 2023.

The co-production process built a framework that was then used to create a programme of online events, each around a specific theme. We then invited guests from a range of disciplines to discuss solutions for staff wellbeing.

Each event featured a similar format of introductions and a short presentation, followed by discussions and Q&A.

We have now completed our 2023 programme of events. The majority of the events have been recorded and added to the Recorded Spaces for Wellbeing Programme section below.
